Bills Quarterback Josh Allen Undergoes Surgery for Fractured Foot

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen revealed Thursday that he recently underwent surgery for a broken bone in his right foot , an injury that occurred during the team's December 21 game against Cleveland and persisted through the Bills' playoff run.

Allen broke his fifth metatarsal late in the second quarter of Buffalo's 23-20 win at Cleveland on December 21 . Speaking at new head coach Joe Brady's introductory press conference, Allen described the injury as "a little broken bone in there," explaining that doctors "went in, took it out and cleaned it up" while acknowledging it was "obviously not ideal situation, painful throughout the weeks."

Allen appeared at Thursday's press conference using crutches and wearing a walking boot on his right foot . The procedure specifically repaired Allen's fifth metatarsal avulsion fracture, with a projected recovery time of 8-10 weeks .

Played Through Injury in Playoffs

Despite being officially listed on the injury report with the foot issue following the Cleveland game, Allen did not miss a single snap of live game action . Allen continued playing with the broken bone through the Bills' final four games of the season , which included Buffalo's Wild Card victory over Jacksonville (27-24) on January 11 and their Divisional Round loss to Denver (33-30) on January 17.

Buffalo listed Allen with foot, knee and finger injuries ahead of the divisional round contest in Denver . In the Bills' two playoff games, Allen completed 71.6 percent of his passing attempts for 556 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions, while rushing for 99 yards and two scores despite the injury .

Expected Recovery Timeline

Despite the walking boot and crutches, Allen said he would be ready for organized team activities (OTAs) and indicated he would be playing if the Bills had a game this week . The quarterback expects to be fully healthy for the start of spring practices .

The revelation came during the official introduction of Brady as Buffalo's new head coach on January 29, following the firing of Sean McDermott after the team's playoff elimination . Allen has now registered 139 consecutive starts, including playoff games .
