Bills' D.J. Moore Ruled Out with Shoulder Injury in Win Over Lions
D.J. Moore, the Buffalo Bills' No. 1 receiver, was ruled out of Thursday night's game against the Detroit Lions after suffering a shoulder injury during Buffalo's 41-31 victory in the team's first game at the new Highmark Stadium.
How the Injury Occurred
With Buffalo leading 21-7, quarterback Josh Allen threw into the end zone for Moore on second-and-3 from the 6-yard line, and Moore, attempting to haul in a low pass, smashed his shoulder onto the grass, rolled to his back and grabbed around the left side of his collarbone. According to the Bills' own injury report, Moore left the game with just under three minutes left in the second quarter with a shoulder and stinger injury.
Moore landed hard on his left shoulder while trying to make a diving catch before Lions cornerback Rock Ya-Sin fell on top of him, and the veteran wideout remained down on the ground, favoring his shoulder before medical staff was called onto the field to tend to him.
Moore walked off under his own power to the locker room for X-rays.
Status Downgraded at Halftime
Moore was examined for two separate injuries, his shoulder and a stinger, and was initially listed as questionable to return before being downgraded to out just after halftime. The Bills confirmed the update via their official channels, with the team's PR department posting that DJ Moore (shoulder) has been downgraded to OUT.
Speaking after the win, Bills coach Joe Brady said he had no update on Moore's status.
Impact on the Offense
Prior to exiting, Moore wasn't a part of the Bills' first-half scoring barrage, as he didn't log a catch prior to the injury and had a carry that went for a negative yard on an end-around. In his absence, Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman remained the team's starters at receiver, with Coleman and Shakir likely absorbing the bulk of Buffalo's snaps.
The injury comes after a standout start to the season for Moore, who was acquired in an offseason trade from the Chicago Bears and had five receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Houston Texans.
The Bills improved to 2-0 with the win, but the severity of Moore's shoulder injury remains unclear as the team awaited further evaluation results following Thursday night's contest.
