Bills Trade Center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger to Colts

The Buffalo Bills announced Sunday morning that they have traded center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the NFL's roster cutdown deadline to 53 players. Buffalo is trading center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2027 sixth-round pick.

The move came as part of a broader wave of roster-trimming activity across the league on Sunday. With the 53-man roster deadline ahead, the Buffalo Bills made a move to send homegrown talent to Indianapolis.

Background on Van Pran-Granger

The Bills drafted Van Pran-Granger, who was the SEC offensive lineman of the year in his final season at Georgia, in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft. During his time in Buffalo, Van Pran-Granger played in 31 career NFL games with the Bills including two starts.

The trade also reflected Van Pran-Granger's standing on Buffalo's depth chart. According to Yahoo Sports, Bills GM Brandon Beane shipped third-string center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger to the Indianapolis Colts.

What the Colts Get

In Indianapolis, Van Pran-Granger is expected to provide depth behind the team's starting center. Fox59 reported that Tanor Bortolini has emerged as one of the NFL's premier centers, but training camp and three preseason games failed to uncover a suitable backup for the position, prompting the Colts to make the move.

Analysis of the Deal

While not a major trade in terms of draft capital, the deal allowed Buffalo to recoup value from a player who may not have made the final roster. As SI.com's Bills coverage noted, the trade was not exactly a blockbuster trade, but it was a good one for the Bills nonetheless considering they were likely to cut the 2024 fifth-round pick anyway , adding that Buffalo gets something for Van Pran-Granger instead of just cutting him loose for nothing, and the Colts get the upgrade they needed behind starting center Tanor Bortolini .

The trade comes as Buffalo enters the 2026 season on a strong note, having gone 3-0 in preseason action, including a 28-27 win over Pittsburgh on Aug. 27. The Bills' offensive line depth chart remains stocked with other interior options as the team finalizes its 53-man roster for the regular season.
