Bills Hire Former Steelers Offensive Line Coach Pat Meyer

The Buffalo Bills are hiring Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Pat Meyer, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The move marks the first assistant coaching hire for the team since Joe Brady was promoted to head coach following their divisional playoff loss to Denver.

Aaron Kromer held that job in Buffalo for the last four seasons, but is expected to retire. Meyer fills the vacancy after completing his third season with Pittsburgh.

Previous Relationship with Brady

Mayer was the O-Line coach in Carolina when Brady was the Panthers' OC from 2020-21.

In 2020, Meyer joined the Carolina Panthers as the offensive line coach. He was fired after the 2021 season.

Meyer's hiring represents a reunion with the Bills organization, where he previously served under head coach Rex Ryan. On July 31, 2015, Meyer was hired as a football operations consultant for the Buffalo Bills.

Meyer, who has served as the offensive line coach in Pittsburgh since 2022, previously spent time as a football operations consultant (2015) and an offensive assistant (2016) in Buffalo.

Pittsburgh Performance

During Meyer's tenure with the Steelers, the offensive line showed strong performance metrics. This season, the Steelers' O-line ranked third in the league in pass block win rate (71%) and ninth in the NFL in run block win rate (72%), per ESPN.

On February 15, 2022, Meyer joined the Steelers as the team's offensive line coach.

Career Background

Meyer brings extensive NFL experience to his return to Buffalo. Prior to Carolina, Meyer spent three years as the Chargers' offensive line coach and he was an offensive assistant in Buffalo for two seasons. His coaching background includes stops with the Chicago Bears and Montreal Alouettes.

The hire represents the Bills' first staff addition as they rebuild their coaching structure under Brady, who was officially introduced as head coach following the departure of Sean McDermott.
