Bills Finalize 17-Player Practice Squad, Add Veterans Dortch, Thompson and Wills
The Buffalo Bills completed their 2026 practice squad on Monday night, signing a 17-player group that mixes training camp holdovers with three notable outside additions. The Buffalo Bills started signing players to the practice squad for the 2026 season, with 14 of the 17 players signed Monday having been with the team during training camp and preseason.
Three Newcomers Join the Fold
The three newcomers to the team are WR Greg Dortch, ILB Shaq Thompson and OL Jedrick Wills Jr.
Greg Dortch returns to Western New York roots as a Rochester native. Dortch is a wide receiver and return specialist who was with the Detroit Lions during training camp and previously played for the Arizona Cardinals from 2021-25.
The speedy pass catcher has appeared in 68 career games, making 145 receptions for 1,310 yards and 10 touchdowns. His signing also brings a reunion, as the addition of Dortch reunites him with Bills special teams coach Jeff Rodgers and wide receivers coach Drew Terrel.
Shaq Thompson makes a return to Buffalo after a strong 2025 campaign. Thompson played in 14 games and started both playoff contests for the Bills last season. During the regular season, he recorded 56 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble before adding eight tackles and an interception in the playoffs. His overall NFL résumé is extensive, as this marks his 12th NFL season after being a first-round pick, 25th overall, of the Carolina Panthers in the 2015 NFL Draft, spending the first 10 years of his career with Carolina.
Jedrick Wills Jr. provides offensive line depth after a turbulent offseason. The former 2020 No. 10 pick joins the Bills' practice squad after spending training camp with the Chicago Bears, sitting out the 2025 season while rehabbing an injury and fighting for a roster spot before being released. During his time in Cleveland, Wills started 57 of 58 regular-season games during five seasons with the Browns.
International Exemption Rounds Out the Roster
The Bills were able to carry an extra player beyond the standard 16-man limit. By rostering defensive lineman Travis Clayton, who is part of the NFL's International Player Pathway program, the Bills were able to include a 17th player on the practice squad.
The remaining 13 players — including QB Shane Buechele, RB Frank Gore Jr., WRs Ja'Mori Maclin, Trent Sherfield Sr. and Stephen Gosnell, OL Nick Broeker and Chase Lundt, LBs Keonta Jenkins and Andre Jones Jr., and DBs Te'Cory Couch, Geno Stone, Kani Walker and Anthony Kendall — all spent time with Buffalo during training camp before earning practice squad spots. The Bills' full roster is now maximized with 53 active players and 17 on the practice squad.
