Coleman Front and Center as Brady Era Begins in Rochester

Buffalo's 2026 training camp opened Wednesday at St. John Fisher University under rainy skies, marking the first practice of the Joe Brady head coaching era, and it was third-year wide receiver Keon Coleman who drew the most attention on Day 1.

Fittingly, given the wet conditions, new head coach Joe Brady told general manager Brandon Beane after warmups that the rain would be "a good test," wondering aloud how players would respond if "someone slips and falls, someone drops a ball, someone fumbles the ball." That scenario played out almost immediately, as third-year wide receiver Keon Coleman dropped a pass early in 7-on-7 drills . Quarterback Josh Allen, however, came back to him on the next play and Coleman made the catch downfield.

The moment set the tone for a Day 1 storyline that followed Coleman throughout camp. The drop came during 7-on-7, with Coleman lining up wide on a short route, but he immediately responded with a catch on his very next rep as Allen went back to him on the opposite side of the formation.

Despite the early miscue, both Beane and Allen voiced strong support for Coleman afterward. Beane said, "If you know him the way I know him and the way I think a lot of the guys and his teammates know him, you see a guy who's really matured. Like the light has come on. He understands some of the things that he could have done better along the way." Allen echoed that sentiment, noting Coleman has "put in the work this offseason" and "continues to master the offense in the role that we're asking him to do."

Coleman himself acknowledged the stakes entering his third NFL season. Asked if he feels he has something to prove, Coleman said "somewhat yes," adding "I'm on my third year and I haven't done anything I said I wanted to do when it comes to production-wise on the field, and I just want to contribute to more wins."

The receiver's up-and-down start continued into Day 2, when he reportedly rebounded with a strong showing. According to Alex Brasky of Bills Digest, Coleman had a bounce-back day after a quiet Day 1, coming away with about five receptions all over the field while showing impressive route-running ability to gain separation over the middle.

Coleman wasn't the only newsworthy item from Wednesday's session. The day also gave fans their first in-person look at the offense's biggest offseason addition, wide receiver DJ Moore , who is entering his debut season in Buffalo after an offseason trade. Meanwhile, Buffalo's defense is unveiling one of the many new wrinkles for the 2026 season as it makes the switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme under defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard.

With camp now underway, all eyes remain on whether Coleman can turn his "prove-it" mentality into consistent production as the Bills build toward their season opener.
