Bills Restructure Spencer Brown Contract, Create $10.4M in Cap Space
The Buffalo Bills have restructured right tackle Spencer Brown's contract, creating approximately $10.4 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season, general manager Brandon Beane confirmed Tuesday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
Beane announced the move during a One Bills Live appearance, stating "We've actually restructured Spencer Brown, so we will get some money back with Spencer. It saves us a little over $10 million with the cap conversion with Spencer."
The restructure is expected to free approximately $10.44 million in 2026 salary cap space , according to multiple reports. The team converted $13 million of Brown's salary and roster bonus into signing bonus on February 24, 2026 , per Spotrac.
The move addresses Buffalo's salary cap constraints heading into free agency. Brown was previously set to count $19.3 million against the 2026 cap , and Buffalo is still projected to be about $2 million over the 2026 salary cap even after the restructure.
The Bills moved from 28th to 24th in the NFL in available cap space following Brown's restructure , according to Over The Cap. The NFL has informed teams the 2026 cap is expected to fall between $301.2 million and $305.7 million, a jump of more than $20 million from 2025's $279.2 million.
Brown is currently listed on Buffalo's roster as one of five offensive linemen, alongside Dion Dawkins, Alec Anderson, Nick Broeker, and Travis Clayton. Brown signed a four-year, $72 million contract extension with the Bills in 2024 that runs through the 2028 season.
Restructures typically convert base salary into signing bonus, allowing teams to spread cap charges into future seasons while lowering the current-year number.
Beane acknowledged the team must continue making moves to achieve salary cap compliance, noting "We know we have to get under the cap. We know we have X number of days to do that, and there's different ways to do it."
The restructure comes as Buffalo prepares for the 2026 free agency period, which begins when the new league year opens on March 11.
